Mariachi Aztlan Performs At Arizona State Capitol

This past Monday, March 4 Pueblo’s Mariachi Aztlan performed at our Arizona State Capital. Three performances were given, one to Secretary of State Ken Bennett and Senators Bradley and Lopez, one on the mall between the House and Senate and the third was at the opening of senate meeting.

This is the first time a student group has been invited to perform for a senate meeting. The students received a standing ovation by all the senators. The House plans to extend an invitation in the future and the comments from everyone were of the highest compliment.

Warriors Volunteer For National Public Lands Day

Pueblo Fire Service students woke up bright and early on  Saturday morning, September 24th for National Public Lands Day.  At 6:30 a.m., these  volunteers were ready to work.  We praise their efforts and dedication to the City of Tucson with their participation in restoring the beauty and vitality of our public lands.

Mariachi Aztlan Wins 2011 Tammie Award

We are very proud to announce that our very own Mariachi Aztlán de Pueblo High School won the 2011 TAMMIES Award (Tucson Area Music) for the best Mariachi Group in the city.

This award is voted on by the Tucson community and was presented to the group at the 18th Annual Tucson Area Music Awards ceremony held on August 31 at the Rialto Theater.

Coach Curly Santa Cruz Honored

On August 25, coach Saturnino “Curly” Santa Cruz was honored at the inaugural 2011 Tucson Football Jamboree held at Tucson High.  After the 3rd Quarter of the Pueblo vs. Tucson match-up, Curly was presented with the High School Signature Coach Award.

The commemorative program stated the following:

A graduate of Pueblo class of 62′, Saturnino “Curly” Santa Cruz was an All-City running back and track standout and went on to play college football at Palo Verde College and Cal-Western University. He attained his Master’s degree from the University of Arizona, and he became an acclaimed educator in TUSD for forty years. “Curly” was a teacher, football and track coach and administrator.  He earned “Coach Of The Year” honors in 1988.

On behalf of the entire Pueblo community, we congratulate Curly and his family for this great honor.  Thank you for representing Pueblo!

Fiesta De Los Guerreros 2011

What a great time we had a Fiesta de los Guerreros this year.  With probably the biggest crowd we’ve had in the last five years our Warriors danced, ate great food and enjoyed the night.

Future Educators of Arizona students attended the “Walk Like MADD” (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) event at Reid Park on Saturday, March 19.
