{"id":2460,"date":"2016-04-28T11:49:58","date_gmt":"2016-04-28T18:49:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pueblowarriors.org\/blog\/?p=2460"},"modified":"2016-09-28T11:55:38","modified_gmt":"2016-09-28T18:55:38","slug":"beatlemania-rocks-pueblo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pueblowarriors.org\/blog\/2016\/04\/beatlemania-rocks-pueblo\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Beatlemania\u2019 Rocks Pueblo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>by Yamilex Garcia<\/p>\n<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/BNQrlKkZNd8?rel=0\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/center><\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, March 15, 2016, Pueblo\u2019s fine arts department students entertained a small crowd with a concert, performing some of the most influential music by the 1960s English rock and roll band, the Beatles, who, even to this day, hold the record for the most number one singles by a band and the most singles in the <em>Billboard <\/em>Top 100. In fact, in one week in early April 1964, the Beatles occupied <strong>all <\/strong>of the Top Five singles\u2014an amazing feat that has never been duplicated.<\/p>\n<p>After 50 years since the Beatles landed at New York\u2019s JFK Airport in February 1964, \u201cBeatlemania\u201d has not waned. Here at Pueblo, there are many who consider the Beatles one of the greatest bands ever.<\/p>\n<p>The concert consisted of guitar class students, mariachi students, solo performances by teachers, staff, and students, and included the jazz club\u2019s first performance, all whom performed Beatles song in different musical styles.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe performances were a new concept and all of Mr. Vargas\u2019 ideas, but the concert took on a life of its own,\u201d band and jazz director Mr. Jeff Shepherd said.<\/p>\n<p>After teaching his students Beatles classics for the third quarter, guitar teacher Mr. Jonathan Vargas used the performances as an evaluation for his students and their progress. Mariachi Aztlan also took part in the event, interpreting two Beatle songs in a mariachi style, including \u201cAll You Need Is Love\u201d. They also performed Tony Bennett\u2019s 1962 classic \u201cI Left My Heart In San Francisco\u201d and the 1960 R &amp; B classic, \u201cAt Last\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Music teacher Mr. Jim Hill, along with Mr. Shepherd and Mr. Vargas sang two songs, including the Beatles\u2019 \u201cOh, Darling\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Also, teachers Ms. Sarah Sutton (drama) and Mr. Shepherd sang two duets.<\/p>\n<p>Mariachi teacher Mr. Johnny Contreras said, \u201cThis concert was awesome! I think Pueblo should have more concerts that involve students and teachers.\u201d He added, \u201cMaybe next time Dr. Romero could sing a song for the audience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe night was an awesome collaboration of all the fine arts programs,\u201d said Vargas. \u201cI\u2019m proud of all of the students who participated in this event.
