This year, exceptional education teacher Mr. Gene Balsz was selected as this year\u2019s Pueblo nominee. Most schools across the state participate in this program.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, Sept. 27, during the weekly teachers\u2019 and staff members\u2019 \u201cprofessional development\u201d meeting, Balsz received more votes than any other teacher at Pueblo.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Augustine Romero, Pueblo\u2019s principal, said, \u201cMr. Balsz does an incredible job with our students and is engaged with them as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Balsz, who has been working at Pueblo for the past seven years, said that he was very surprised when he found out that he was the nominee at Pueblo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the only reason why I was the nominee [and won the award] is because I can work very well with any of our students at Pueblo,\u201d Balsz said.<\/p>\n<p>He paused and said, \u201cI\u2019m really good with the kids who hate school.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Besides teaching exceptional education students, Balsz is also very involved with Pueblo\u2019s math club, called MESA\u2014an acronym for Math, English, Science and Achievement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMr. B. does an amazing job in MESA as well,\u201d Romero said. \u201cWe are very lucky to have him at Pueblo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Trevia Heath, Mr. Balsz\u2019 department chair, said, \u201cI am delighted with Mr. Balsz\u2019 nomination. He works hard to develop relationships with students and is always willing to try new strategies in his classroom. Gene [Balsz] is committed to fostering life-long learning habits in his students.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Later this year, in mid-to-late-November, Circle K will announce its winner for the regional \u201cTeacher of the Year\u201d.
