Pueblo\u2019s new Exceptional Education teacher, Mr. Derek Gunnels, is very proud to educate his students and happy to work alongside his parents and brother. (His father, Mr. Michael Gunnels, is Pueblo\u2019s communications media tech teacher; his mother, Ms. Kathryn Gunnels, is Pueblo\u2019s newest assistant principal; and, younger brother Mr. Jeren Gunnels is an instructional specialist for the TSW (Transition from School to Work) Program.<\/p>\n Derek said that he fell in love with teaching when he became involved with helping with Pueblo\u2019s clothing bank.<\/p>\n \u201cFrom the clothing bank, we\u2019re now focusing on the greenhouse project for the school,\u201d Gunnels said.<\/p>\n Gunnels wants his students to enjoy their high school years\u2014unlike his high school years.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s what you don\u2019t like that motivates you to come back,\u201d said Gunnels.<\/p>\n He added that he foresees himself being at Pueblo for a long time.<\/p>\n \u201cAs long as I\u2019m making connections with my students, I\u2019m going to love being here.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" by Robert Moroyoqui Pueblo\u2019s new Exceptional Education teacher, Mr. Derek Gunnels, is very proud to educate his students and happy to work alongside his parents and brother.
