This time, she sponsored and organized a \u201cBest Salsa\u201d contest among our school\u2019s faculty.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, Feb. 21\u2014in early celebration of Rodeo Vacation\u2014Barnes displayed all of the salsas from faculty and staff members.<\/p>\n<p>This year, the 44 judges\u2014consisting of several dozen staff members and even a few seniors\u2014overwhelmingly chose the salsa concocted by campus security monitor Ms. Nellie Rivera for the \u201cgold\u201d; Folklorico and ELD teacher Ms. Carmen Bonillas received a \u201csecond place\u201d award.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/pueblowarriors.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/Salsa-Contest-Pueblo.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[3056]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-3058\" src=\"https:\/\/pueblowarriors.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/Salsa-Contest-Pueblo-550x316.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"316\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pueblowarriors.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/Salsa-Contest-Pueblo.jpg 550w, https:\/\/pueblowarriors.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/Salsa-Contest-Pueblo-500x287.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love cooking,\u201d Rivera said. \u201cIt\u2019s always fun for me. This contest was more than just a competition\u2014it was a way for our faculty and staff to unite more often.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She paused and said, \u201cI don\u2019t think I won\u2014I think everyone won.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Second-placer Ms. Carmen Bonillas said, \u201cIt\u2019s not the ingredients that makes for a winning salsa\u2014it\u2019s all about the proportions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bonillas added, \u201cThese kinds of contests are fun because we teachers sometimes need to just have fun.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The good news is that every participant received at least a few votes, Barnes said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe non-winners all received certificates\u2014as runners-ups in the contest,\u201d Barnes said.<\/p>\n<p>Both Rivera and Bonillas received gift cards.<\/p>\n<p>On March 15, the day after the official \u201cPI\u201d Day (3.14), Barnes will host another contest among faculty and staff members: of course, pies! Normally, the pie contest would be on National Pi day, but because of the scheduled \u201cMarch for Our Lives\u201d event, Barnes said that the contest will be on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>She anticipates that she will have no shortage of judges for this one.
