\u201cSpeed- dating\u201d on\nTuesday; \u201cSideline spirit\u201d on Wednesday; \u201cCollege Fan Day\u201d on Thursday; and \u201cFinal\ncountdown\u201d on Friday, which was the official theme for the assembly as a whole.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Student Council advisor\/teacher\nMr. Greg Obregon, said, \u201cThe themes are chosen by students at Pueblo during\ntheir lunches or through emails.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said, \u201cThis year\u2019s\nthemes were great, but \u2018Pajama Day\u2019, which wasn\u2019t part of this year\u2019s themes,\nwill always be my favorite.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Allissa Barone, a\nsenior, is a member of the Spirit Committee, said that she hopes that more\nstudents can participate in helping determine future spirit weeks\u2019 themes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI would also like to\nsee more seniors becoming involved\u2014especially since it\u2019s their last year of\nhigh school,\u201d she added. \u201cIf more seniors became involved, I think the\nunderclassmen would follow the trend.\u201d She paused and added, \u201cFor the first\nspirit week, I thought students were fairly spirited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hazel Haynes, another senior and member of the Spirit Committee, said that she wants the student body to know that Student Council represents all students\u2014and that the organization\u2019s number one objective is to ensure that all<strong> <\/strong>students\u2019 opinions are being counted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe work for everybody\nat Pueblo,\u201d Haynes said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Obregon,\nPueblo\u2019s next Spirit Week will begin on Dec. 2, although themes are not\ndetermined yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe hope that we receive\na lot of different ideas for December,\u201d he said. \u201cLet\u2019s keep the originality\ncoming our way!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>First Spirit Assembly: A Result of \u2018Hard Work\u2019<\/strong><br>By Kevin Cazares and Ivan Rosas <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pueblowarriors.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Pueblo-Homecoming-Spirit-Assembly-2019.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[3209]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"550\" height=\"550\" src=\"https:\/\/pueblowarriors.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Pueblo-Homecoming-Spirit-Assembly-2019-550x550.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3211\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pueblowarriors.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Pueblo-Homecoming-Spirit-Assembly-2019-550x550.jpg 550w, https:\/\/pueblowarriors.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Pueblo-Homecoming-Spirit-Assembly-2019-100x100.jpg 100w, https:\/\/pueblowarriors.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Pueblo-Homecoming-Spirit-Assembly-2019-500x500.jpg 500w, https:\/\/pueblowarriors.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Pueblo-Homecoming-Spirit-Assembly-2019-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/pueblowarriors.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Pueblo-Homecoming-Spirit-Assembly-2019.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p> On Friday, Sept. 27, we had our first spirit assembly of the school year.  It&#8217;s always one of the most anticipated events of the entire school year. This year\u2019s spirit assembly, according to students interviewed for this story, did not let our Warriors down. The week\u2019s dramatic themes just added to this anticipation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Student Council worked diligently to ensure that Homecoming 2019 would be an\nunforgettable and positive event. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr. Greg Obregon, Student Council teacher and advisor, helped coordinate his\nstudents on how to make Spirit Week and the first Spirit Assembly a success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Obregon said, \u201cWith all of the extra hours they put in during school hours\nand after school, I was confident they couldn\u2019t fail. In the end, I was very\nimpressed. Their hard work really paid off, and we had mostly positive comments\nabout all of the spirit activities, including the assembly.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the highlights that students enjoyed most\nwas when our varsity football players broke a pi\u00f1ata to commemorate their\nwinning season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite most students enjoying the assembly, a\nfew expressed how they wished the assembly would end when it is scheduled to be\nover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The next spirit week is scheduled for the week of\nDec. 2-6, according to Student Council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Warriors Winning Streak Over<\/strong><br>By Palmira Henriquez and Daeyalina Moreno <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pueblowarriors.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Pueblo-Homecoming-Football-2019.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[3209]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"550\" height=\"367\" src=\"https:\/\/pueblowarriors.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Pueblo-Homecoming-Football-2019-550x367.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3212\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pueblowarriors.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Pueblo-Homecoming-Football-2019-550x367.jpg 550w, https:\/\/pueblowarriors.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Pueblo-Homecoming-Football-2019-500x333.jpg 500w, https:\/\/pueblowarriors.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Pueblo-Homecoming-Football-2019-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/pueblowarriors.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/Pueblo-Homecoming-Football-2019.jpg 1279w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Pueblo hosted the Homecoming football game on the newly dedicated \u201cSaturnino \u2018Curly\u2019 Santa Cruz\u201d Stadium. Up to this point, the Warrior football team was 4-0, an undefeated season with hopes of making it 5-0.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Taking on\nthe Catalina Foothills Falcons was supposed to be a cinch for the Warriors, but\nit was anything but that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI feel\nas if the entire team had the energy to pull off a victory, but somehow we\nlost,\u201d said sophomore Enrique Cancio (#2).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sadly,\nthe Warriors\u2019 winning streak came to an end, reporting their first loss of the\nseason. Head Coach Brandon Sanders said, \u201cDuring the game, the team lost its\nfundamentals, and after playing and defeating local rivals, the team could not\nfind the same high to conquer the Falcons.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite\nthe loss, our Warriors put up a good defense during the first quarter, keeping\nthe score at 0-0. However, that all changed in the second quarter; by halftime,\nthe score was Pueblo, 0, Falcons, 12.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Quarterback\nMarcelino Vega (#4), a senior, said, \u201cThe energy was there, but it faded as the\ngame went on. I want to\nthank everybody who believed in us!\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moreno said, \u201cWhen my\nname was announced, nothing else mattered to me. I was proud of myself but\nmostly proud of my girlfriend Jazmyne.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sophomores Daidryan\nMendivil and Jezelle Fuentes were voted \u201cDuke\u201d and \u201cDuchess\u201d for their\nsophomore class.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mendivil said, \u201cWe were\nreally happy and excited that people voted for us.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt was like a really great dream!\u201d Fuentes said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u2018The Night of Nights\u2019<\/strong><br>By Ismael Angulo and Alina Cuen \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Saturday, Sept. 28, the Warriors lit up the night with a\nneon bowling theme. For the first time in the Lever Gym, the hype of the dance\ncontinued throughout the week&#8211;especially the announcement of royalty for\njuniors and seniors.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The turnout was impressive this year. More than 100\nstudents were in attendance. Although there were mixed reviews about the dance,\nmost Warriors interviewed for this story did seem to really enjoy themselves.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lever Gym allowed more space than the South Gym, and most\nstudents enjoyed the extra space.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alek Mendez, a senior, said, \u201cThis year\u2019s dance was a lot better than\nthe past years, and choosing Lever Gym instead of the South Gym was a way\nbetter choice and the energy was a lot more feeling.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The dance was over by 11 p.m., and some students wanted to\nexpress their ideas to make future Homecoming dances even better.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mendez said, \u201cI feel that at other schools, there is more build-up\nto the dance, including more decorations and more clubs serving food and drinks\ninstead of just a few clubs participating. Even though this is my last\nhomecoming dance, I would like to see more clubs involved in events like this\nin the future.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the highlights of\nthe evening was announcing junior and senior royalty. First, the juniors were\nannounced\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>David Miramontes and\nMarina Villa were voted as the Class of 2021 \u201cPrince\u201d and \u201cPrincess\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Miramontes said, \u201cI\nreally didn\u2019t expect to win, but hearing my name announced really made my\nnight.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAfter being crowned\nwinner, both of us were pretty stoked to receive this honor! It was a memorable\nnight,\u201d said Villa.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As our seniors continue\nto make their last year memorable, Alina Cuen and Aaron Cano were voted our\n2019 homecoming king and queen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cano said, \u201cIt was surprising to win! I didn\u2019t think we\nwere going to. It was like a rush of joy.\u201d?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cuen said, \u201cI was very happy and filled with joy to be\nhonored by my peers! Winning was truly a moment and a night that I will?never\nforget.
