Now, at the near-end of the first semester, most freshmen\nhave found a routine and admit to enjoying their new school. Truly, they have\nfound their ways\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kortez Rodriguez, one of the more than nearly 500 freshmen this year at\nPueblo, said, \u201cThis first quarter wasn\u2019t as confusing as it could have been for\nme because a lot of upperclassmen helped guide me. Not all upperclassmen hate\nfreshmen!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Transitioning from a middle school to a high school can be a big milestone for\nmany freshmen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Freshman Eve Woods feels proud of herself to have earned a perfect GPA for\nfirst quarter, but she admits that she had her share of personal challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt was difficult to put myself out there,\u201d Woods said. \u201cBut, in the end, I\nfound that being involved in volleyball really helped me to meet new people.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Woods suggest that all freshmen should become involved with an activity\nbecause it will help them to establish new friends and to help them feel that\nthey are part of a community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another freshman, Issac Palomo, said that making new friends has been his\nbiggest struggle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI came to Pueblo from Pueblo Gardens, and only friend from that school came\nwith me here,\u201d Palomo said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI plan to get involved with sports,\u201d Palomo added, \u201cand this will hopefully\nhelp me to make more friends at Pueblo.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pueblo counselor Ms. Marian Finley said that freshmen have many\nopportunities to transition smoothly into high school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFreshman Experience is a great program for incoming freshman, and this past\nsummer, we had a record number of participants,\u201d Finley said. \u201cEach student\ngained high school exposure and one-half credit to start off their freshman\nyear.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by Ismael Angulo &amp; Alina Cuen Every new school year at Pueblo High School, many freshmen seem to struggle to transition to high school\u2014from being \u201ckings\/queens of the hill\u201d in middle school to feeling insignificant as ninth graders in a new environment.
