Last year, our marching Warriors placed 21<sup>st<\/sup>\nout of 22, while this year students pushed hard and made it happen again; this\ntime, however, they placed 23<sup>rd<\/sup> out of 30. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis year we scored eight points higher than last\nyear,\u201d said Mr. Jesus Jacquez, Pueblo\u2019s band director and teacher. \u201cIt [placing\n23<sup>rd<\/sup>] may not seem like it, but it\u2019s a way better rating [than last\nyear&#8217;s placing].\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The score improvement shown by those eight points in\njust one year is a big step towards the success and rebuilding of our school&#8217;s\nmusic and band programs, according to Jacquez.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our band placed higher than 25<sup>th<\/sup> in sub-categories\nincluding general effect music\/visual, music individual\/ensemble, and visual\nindividual\/ensemble, even surpassing Sahuaro High School, whose band has\nhistorically ranked higher in previous competitions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jacquez said, \u201cBeating Sahuaro in the sub-categories\nfelt pretty good. I didn\u2019t think we would beat them in some of the categories.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The band program at Pueblo has grown tremendously over\nthe past few years thanks to the commitment from Jacquez and his students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Senior Polet Licudine, a drum major, said, \u201cThe band\nhas really improved because everybody knows what they are doing this year. Last\nyear, students didn\u2019t have this inspiration and organization. Mr. Jacquez has\nreally made us a better program.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another senior, Luciana Velarde, the band\u2019s trumpet\nsoloist, said, \u201cThe band program has grown immensely, and within a few months\nof this school year and gained more recognition.
