Girls basketball is now halfway through their\nseason, and with a record of 7-14 (as of Jan. 28), their conference games are\nnow coming to an end. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Clearly, the girls\u2019 basketball season is not\ngoing as expected, however, they continue to push forward and make the best out\nof the remaining season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coach Ismael Galindo said, \u201cThe goal is always\nthe same, State championship; unfortunately, with a recent loss, we are out of\nthe state tournament for the first time in five years.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Galindo has a few words to say about his young\nvarsity team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said, \u201cI\u2019m always excited about freshmen because it gives me time to\nteach them, although I feel that I can teach anyone who wants to learn.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Freshman point guard Victoria Cazares is making\nhuge strides as the leading scorer and starter for the varsity team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She said, \u201cBeing a freshman on the varsity team\ntakes hard work and dedication. A spot on the varsity team isn\u2019t given, it’s\nearned.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Myla Truitt, another Class of \u201923 freshman, is a\nshooting guard and a starter on varsity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She said, \u201cPlaying on varsity is fun, it\u2019s more\ncompetitive and faster pace. Our season has been good, but it could be better.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coach Galindo said the season is not over until\nit\u2019s over; however, he does admit that the team will have to make some\nadjustments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said, \u201cI\u2019m not giving up on this season, but\nwe can take what we\u2019ve learned this season and use it for motivation to work\nharder and get better for next season.\u201d \n\n\u201cThe differences year to\nyear doesn\u2019t really matter. Players have to play, and coaches have to coach,\u201d\nhe said.\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
