{"id":3412,"date":"2020-12-17T12:23:07","date_gmt":"2020-12-17T19:23:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pueblowarriors.org\/blog\/?p=3412"},"modified":"2020-12-17T12:23:07","modified_gmt":"2020-12-17T19:23:07","slug":"student-council-stays-strong-during-pandemic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pueblowarriors.org\/blog\/2020\/12\/student-council-stays-strong-during-pandemic\/","title":{"rendered":"Student Council Stays Strong During Pandemic"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>By Hector Guzman&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During this 2020-2021 school year, Pueblo\u2019s Student Council has faced many challenges and jumped over many obstacles due to the COVID-19 pandemic that has prevented this club from performing normally.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr. Gregory Obregon, who teaches Algebra 1 and 2, is once again this year\u2019s Student Council advisor\/teacher. Like many at Pueblo, he has expressed his frustrations of online instruction and trying to ensure that Student Council continues to be functional.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe [students and teachers\/sponsors] may not be able to be with our students in person, but the work we still need to do really does matter,\u201d Obregon said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, he does have hope that this situation will not last forever but wishes he had had more time to prepare for a remote learning environment.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt [Covid-19] will pass,\u201d he said.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pueblowarriors.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Franchesca-Fernandez-Pueblo-Student-Council-President-edited.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[3412]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pueblowarriors.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Franchesca-Fernandez-Pueblo-Student-Council-President-edited.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3414\" width=\"275\" height=\"441\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pueblowarriors.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Franchesca-Fernandez-Pueblo-Student-Council-President-edited.jpg 550w, https:\/\/pueblowarriors.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Franchesca-Fernandez-Pueblo-Student-Council-President-edited-312x500.jpg 312w, https:\/\/pueblowarriors.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/Franchesca-Fernandez-Pueblo-Student-Council-President-edited-343x550.jpg 343w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 275px) 100vw, 275px\" \/><\/a><figcaption>Franchesca Fernandez<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Franchesca Fernandez, a senior and this year\u2019s Student Council president, has also encountered her share of challenges this school year. She said that insufficient student participation has affected her job, and she has had difficulty contacting people. She said that she conducts meetings by planning schedules and having business meetings on Thursdays, and afterwards allows members to be in their committees.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fernandez said that this year Student Council is looking at online alternatives to raise money, including Percentage Night Fundraisers. She hopes to continue raising money for the club throughout the entire school year.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cStudent Council is there for them [students],\u201d Fernandez said. \u201cWe are trying our hardest amidst the pandemic to keep pushing, and we will eventually get through it.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Obregon said that he misses an in-person Student Council a lot\u2014as well as all the activities, group work and just hanging out with his club members.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cShowing school spirit is quite hard during the pandemic,\u201d Obregon said, \u201cbecause we are unable to decorate the hallways and put up posters.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He expressed sadness on not being able to give students a real Student Council environment.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDespite the hardships, we\u2019re all together in this,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Hector Guzman&nbsp; During this 2020-2021 school year, Pueblo\u2019s Student Council has faced many challenges and jumped over many obstacles due to the COVID-19 pandemic that has prevented this club from performing normally.&nbsp; Mr. Gregory Obregon, who teaches Algebra 1 and 2, is once again this year\u2019s Student Council advisor\/teacher.
