{"id":3447,"date":"2021-10-04T10:12:00","date_gmt":"2021-10-04T17:12:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pueblowarriors.org\/blog\/?p=3447"},"modified":"2021-10-27T10:36:47","modified_gmt":"2021-10-27T17:36:47","slug":"project-contact-rolls-back-to-pueblo-campus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pueblowarriors.org\/blog\/2021\/10\/project-contact-rolls-back-to-pueblo-campus\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Project Contact\u2019 Rolls Back To Pueblo Campus"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>By Victoria Cazares &amp; Adam Bonillas<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pueblowarriors.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Pima-County-Health-Van-scaled.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[3447]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"550\" height=\"413\" src=\"https:\/\/pueblowarriors.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Pima-County-Health-Van-550x413.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3448\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pueblowarriors.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Pima-County-Health-Van-550x413.jpg 550w, https:\/\/pueblowarriors.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Pima-County-Health-Van-500x375.jpg 500w, https:\/\/pueblowarriors.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Pima-County-Health-Van-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/pueblowarriors.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Pima-County-Health-Van-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/pueblowarriors.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Pima-County-Health-Van-2048x1536.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/a><figcaption>Pima County Health Services Van at Pueblo.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Project Contact has returned to Pueblo High School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This service is an outlet to educate students about preventing sexually-transmitted diseases, teen pregnancy and to provide knowledge about having safe sex.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nurse Kate Straub contacted this program to be a part of the Pueblo community as a way to keep our students safe and educated about sex.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cProject Contact is a fantastic!\u201d said Straub. \u201cThis service reduces students\u2019 chances of getting pregnant,\u201d said Straub, \u201cas well as keeping them informed about sexually-transmitted diseases.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Project Contact is part of the Pima County Health Department and is on campus every second and fourth Monday of the month from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., located in a large RV in the southwestern part of the campus by the portables.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cStudents can freely obtain information and get educated about sex, and so far this service has been a positive experience for students,\u201d Straub said. \u201cHundreds of students have already taken advantage of Project Contact,\u201d said Straub.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She added that this service provides free and confidential advice to students; contraception, condoms, and STD testing and treatment to all Pueblo students is available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students interested in visiting this service can sign up in the nurse&#8217;s office; students will be discreetly called out of class whenever the Project Contact RV is on campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Straub said, \u201cNobody is going to know your [students\u2019] business, so there\u2019s no need for anybody to feel embarrassed. Everything is confidential.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A senior, who wishes anonymity, said she had a \u201cvery positive\u201d experience visit to Project Contact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She said, \u201cThese medical professionals were genuinely nice. I learned a lot during my visit and recommend that if students need this kind of advice or help to sign up for this free service.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Straub said that she is planning to continue this program for as long as she can, labeling it \u201ca great resource\u201d for the Pueblo community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFor now, Project Contact is here to stay,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This service is also available at TAPP (Teenage Parent Program) and Tucson High School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cProject Contact would like to visit other schools\u2014as the service will be available to anywhere if the program is embraced by schools\u2019 administrators and nurses,\u201d Straub said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m just happy that we are lucky enough to have this service available to our Pueblo community,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Victoria Cazares &amp; Adam Bonillas Project Contact has returned to Pueblo High School.
