At the end of August, Pueblo security monitor Ms. Vickie Bellay, who was committed to keeping PHS safer for the past 23 years, decided to retire and start the next chapter of her life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bellay\u2019s time over the years\u2014one of the longest campus security tenures in Pueblo High School history\u2014has taught her a lot about Pueblo\u2019s \u201cawesome\u201d students. She added that every year during her years at PHS was different because every year brought new kids and experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Undoubtedly, Bellay\u2019s legacy will continue to grow as the years pass. Her campus security colleagues echoed the same sentiment regarding Bellay: \u201cWhen Vickie was around, stuff would get done.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ms. Nora Monge, campus monitor, said, \u201cShe [Vickie] is number one, and she has no idea how much she is going to be missed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another monitor, Ms. Nellie Rivera, said, \u201cWe\u2019ll miss Vickie a lot, but hopefully we\u2019ll see each other throughout the years.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bellay said upon leaving Pueblo, \u201cI hope students will understand why I was so strict. I was doing my job to uphold the rules and policies, and I treated everybody equally. I was always objective\u2014with everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She added that being with students and seeing their success and their academic pursuits was one of the most rewarding parts of her job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bellay said, \u201cGoing to work at Pueblo was my job, but it was always a joy, and I always took my role very seriously. All I wanted for students was to see them become successful. I treated y\u2019all [students] how I treat my own kids because I wanted them all to be their best.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n

With all the thousands of connections with students, faculty, and staff that Bellay has made over the past 20+ years, the positive impressions she has created are everlasting.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
