{"id":3670,"date":"2023-11-08T09:37:38","date_gmt":"2023-11-08T16:37:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pueblowarriors.org\/blog\/?p=3670"},"modified":"2023-11-08T09:37:38","modified_gmt":"2023-11-08T16:37:38","slug":"yoto-continues-to-help-rescue-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pueblowarriors.org\/blog\/2023\/11\/yoto-continues-to-help-rescue-students\/","title":{"rendered":"YOTO Continues To Help Rescue Students"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>By Adam Bonillas &amp; Estevan Cardenas<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pueblowarriors.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Youth-On-Their-Own.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[3670]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"387\" height=\"340\" src=\"https:\/\/pueblowarriors.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Youth-On-Their-Own.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3671\" style=\"width:250px\"\/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>YOTO also known as \u201cYouth on Their Own\u201d is a non-profit organization that helps youth that are experiencing some type of homeless issues and for them to earn their high school diplomas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The organization provides multiple services that assist youth academically and in life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe [YOTO] focus on helping students achieve academic success and assisting our youth with resources such as monthly stipends, food, clothing guidance, hygiene and school supplies,\u201d said YOTO Coordinator Sal Ramos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students can apply on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.yotoaz.org\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"www.yotoaz.org\">YOTO\u2019s website<\/a> by creating an online username and submitting an online application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe requirements for a student to be accepted into our program are simple,\u201d said YOTO Coordinator Mr. Jonathan Contreras. \u201cA youth must be enrolled in school and must be experiencing homelessness or be unaccompanied on their own through no fault of their own.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The program has helped thousands of students through school and life for more than 35 years and encourages any youth who is on his or her own to apply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cStudents who are experiencing homelessness or difficult homelife issues should apply,\u201d said Ramos. \u201cSometimes it can be scary for students to say they are alone, especially when no one knows you are. YOTO is here to help and to ensure students can focus on their education and not life\u2019s difficulties.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>[In 1986, Ann Young, a guidance counselor at Amphitheater High School, felt concerned about an increasing number of homeless students. She took it upon herself to do something about it. Young\u2019s compassion and initiative evolved into the Youth on Their Own that we know today, which has since helped over 1,500 homeless youth. It took a lot of hard work and support from gracious volunteers over the last 31 years to get the organization on its feet.
