{"id":3900,"date":"2024-04-04T10:42:00","date_gmt":"2024-04-04T17:42:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pueblowarriors.org\/blog\/?p=3900"},"modified":"2024-05-07T10:52:22","modified_gmt":"2024-05-07T17:52:22","slug":"pueblo-community-rolls-up-its-sleeves-again","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pueblowarriors.org\/blog\/2024\/04\/pueblo-community-rolls-up-its-sleeves-again\/","title":{"rendered":"Pueblo Community Rolls Up Its Sleeves\u2026 Again"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>By Jose Jovel<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pueblowarriors.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Pueblo-High-School-Blood-Drive.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[3900]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"550\" height=\"490\" src=\"https:\/\/pueblowarriors.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Pueblo-High-School-Blood-Drive-550x490.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3901\" style=\"width:225px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pueblowarriors.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Pueblo-High-School-Blood-Drive-550x490.jpg 550w, https:\/\/pueblowarriors.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Pueblo-High-School-Blood-Drive-500x445.jpg 500w, https:\/\/pueblowarriors.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Pueblo-High-School-Blood-Drive.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Pueblo High School Librarian Ms. Marsha Jean Burrola rolls up her sleeves.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>On Tuesday, March 5, the Red Cross paid another visit to Pueblo High School\u2019s Lever Gym, and once again, Warriors rolled up their sleeves to donate blood at a very crucial time in the community when blood donations have been steadily decreasing in recent years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The blood drive was organized by Student Body Secretary senior Czarina Grijalva, who has been organizing Pueblo\u2019s blood drives for the past two years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not as stressful as you think to organize a blood drive,\u201d said Grijalva. \u201cIt\u2019s our community duty to donate blood, and the Pueblo community has been historically generous.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Red Cross member Chastity Morris said, \u201cStudents should try to donate blood because it saves lives, and everybody\u2019s blood type is valuable.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One blood donor, senior Sergio Lopez, said, \u201cI donate blood to help my community, and knowing that I could be saving lives is definitely a motivating factor.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PHS librarian, Ms. Marsha Jean Burrola, rolled up her sleeves as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been a blood donor since I was 17,\u201d she said. \u201cI am thankful I can share my health with others.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A total of 17 pints of blood were \u201ccollected\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pueblo&#8217;s next and last blood drive will be held May 8\u2014when the PHS community is encouraged to help a shortage of blood in Southern Arizona. Students must bring their IDs and a signed permission slip, available from Student Council.
