Maria Wakefield Fish

Many of our students come from Wakefield Middle School as one of our feeder schools. Do you know why it was named Wakefield?

The Arizona Historical Society hosted a graveyard tour this Saturday where historical figures were reenacted. One of the featured graves was that of Maria Wakefield Fish.

According to the AzHS:

Maria Wakefield Fish was the first professionally trained public school teacher in Arizona and Wakefield Middle School in Tucson is named for her.

  2. now this is a true story.
From the beginning of 6th grade to the end of 8th grade, our lives change in such a dramatic way. We saw a lady in the p.e locker rooms. We saw her shadow where the showers that were more private. It was a shadow formed like a lady and it was black, Then, one time we had a study jam and stayed at school until about 8 p.m. and in the bathroom upstairs next to where Mr. Romero’s class was at, we were in there and people said that they would hear a lady talking in that hall way. it was a very scary thing when they did the haunted house one halloween because i felt like someone was pushing me down stairs. Scary stuff, very scary stuff. What now SONNY! What now!

  3. I remember the suicide stairs. It was blocked off, so noone would go down. The stairs were real steep. I don’t know if the students made it up, or it really did happen. supposedly a student fall down the stairs. it was scary looking down the stairs ?
