New Football & Practice Field Grass Project

Pueblo’s football & practice fields will be getting new grass.  A state of the art sprinkler system covering both fields to be compatible with reclaimed water are also being installed. The project officially starts today and will be completed in the Spring of 2011.

Southwest Enviroscapes Inc. started digging for soil samples to determine what type of fertilizer will be used on new field. Heavy machinery will be used to scrape the old grass to make room for the new one.

Football Field is all done! Looks great!

Follow the progress of the construction on our photo gallery

The foreman that will be overseeing the project is Reyes Contreras, a Pueblo graduate from the class of 1979.

Our athletes will sure welcome the new grass on both fields.  Football field will be done first to be ready for track season & graduation.  The practice fields will be done after the spring sports season.

U of A Students Visit American History Chicano Perspectives Classes

Twenty University of Arizona students from a class entitled “Race, Ethnicity, and the American Dream” visited the American History—Chicano Perspectives classes and did a number of activities with Pueblo students around racism and white privilege.

Group activity that focused on racism & white privilege.

Afterward the students all discussed the potential impact of the ban of ethnic studies classes, which is supposed to go into effect on December 31.

Small groups discussed upcoming ban of ethnic studies classes.

Thank you to these U of A students for taking the time to visit our campus.

Chemical Reaction Experiment

Honors Chemistry students were conducting an experiment involving mentos & diet soda to test the chemical reaction between the two.  The result is a giant geyser of soda spewing from the 2 liter bottle.  The questions is why?

Students love to conduct this experiment and the reaction on their faces is always the same. They tried different variables to see which produced the highest geyser. Check out the video:

This experiment was part of a training for these honors students by the University of Arizona.  They will be tutoring other students in science.

Training conducted by Jose of the University of Arizona
Training session by University Of Arizona

You can try this at home yourself.  You will need:

  • A roll or box of Mentos mints
  • 2-liter bottle of diet soda (diet or regular soda will work, but diet soda is not as sticky)
  • Piece of paper to use a funnel to drop Mentos in bottle

Students gathered to greet our new head cheerleaders. They will be representing Pueblo at school sporting events and functions.
